The Golden Gate (Porta Aurea) was the grand northern entrance to Diocletian's Palace, originally adorned with statues and columns. Today, it stands as a well-preserved Roman gateway, though much of its decoration is lost. The area in front of the gate has become a popular gathering spot, dominated by a large bronze statue of Gregory of Nin, a 10th-century bishop. Visitors often rub the statue's toe for good luck. The gate itself offers a glimpse into the palace's original defensive architecture and is a starting point for exploring the old town.
