Sečovlje Saltworks, straddling the border with Slovenia, is one of the oldest salt production sites in the Adriatic, dating back to the 13th century. Today, it functions as a nature park where visitors can walk along wooden paths through the salt pans, observing salt crystallization and the unique ecosystem. The area is a haven for birdwatchers, with over 200 bird species, including herons and flamingos. A small museum explains traditional salt-making techniques, and the on-site shop sells local salt products.
Don't miss
- Walk the wooden trails through the salt pans and watch salt being harvested.
- Spot migratory birds like herons, egrets, and flamingos in the saltwater basins.
- Visit the museum to learn about centuries-old salt production methods.
