The Cathedral of Saint Domnius is a remarkable structure that began as the mausoleum of the Roman emperor Diocletian. In the 7th century, it was converted into a Christian cathedral, making it one of the oldest Catholic cathedrals still in use. The octagonal building is surrounded by a colonnade and topped with a bell tower that offers panoramic views of Split. Inside, the cathedral features a richly carved pulpit, medieval altarpieces, and a treasury with relics. Its dual history as a pagan tomb and Christian church gives it a unique spiritual and architectural significance.

Don't miss

  • Climb the bell tower for sweeping views of Split's rooftops and the Adriatic Sea.
  • Admire the 13th-century wooden choir stalls and the Romanesque stone pulpit.
  • See the treasury's collection of reliquaries and liturgical objects, including the skull of Saint Domnius.
