The Diocese of Poreč and Pula is the administrative hub of the Roman Catholic Church for western Istria, but its main attraction is the Euphrasian Basilica complex in Poreč. This UNESCO World Heritage site includes a 6th-century Byzantine cathedral, a baptistery, and a bell tower, all adorned with exquisite mosaics. Visitors can marvel at the golden apse mosaics depicting the Virgin Mary and Christ, among the finest in Europe. The complex also houses a small museum with artifacts from the early Christian period. The serene courtyard and views from the bell tower complete the experience.
