The Rector's Palace is a stunning blend of Gothic and Renaissance architecture, built in the 15th century as the seat of Dubrovnik's rector. The rector lived and worked here during his one-month term, a system designed to prevent concentration of power. Today, it houses the Cultural History Museum, where visitors can explore restored rooms, including the rector's office and living quarters, furnished with period pieces. The central atrium, with its grand staircase and arcaded courtyard, often hosts concerts. Exhibits feature coins, paintings, and ceremonial objects that illuminate Dubrovnik's republican past.
Don't miss
- Walk through the atrium and admire the carved capitals and the statue of Miho Pracat.
- See the rector's office and bedroom, furnished with original 16th-century pieces.
- View the collection of Dubrovnik's minted coins and seals of the Republic.
