Cabo Velas marks the southernmost point of the Nicoya Peninsula near Tamarindo, featuring a rocky headland and a serene beach that sees far fewer visitors than the main town. The cape offers panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, with waves crashing against volcanic rock formations. The beach itself is a mix of dark sand and pebbles, with tide pools to explore at low tide. It's an excellent spot for a quiet picnic, photography, or simply watching the sunset paint the sky. The area is also known for its consistent winds, making it a popular launch point for kiteboarders and windsurfers. Access requires a short hike over a hill, which adds to its secluded feel.
Don't miss
- Hike to the cape's viewpoint for stunning 180-degree ocean panoramas.
- Explore tide pools teeming with small crabs and sea stars at low tide.
- Watch kiteboarders ride the strong afternoon winds off the point.
