Xintiandi

A bit of history

Built in the early 20th century as shikumen lane housing, Shanghai's signature blend of Chinese courtyard and Western terraced-house design, the area was redeveloped from the late 1990s into the upscale Xintiandi district, preserving the architecture while transforming the interiors.
