Fangsheng Bridge, meaning 'life-releasing bridge,' is a five-arched stone bridge that spans one of Zhujiajiao's main canals. Built during the Ming Dynasty, it is the largest bridge in the water town and a popular spot for the Buddhist practice of releasing captive animals, such as fish or turtles, as a merit-making act. The bridge offers excellent views of the canal and surrounding traditional buildings. Visitors can watch locals perform the release ceremony or simply admire the bridge's elegant stonework and the reflection of its arches in the water.

Don't miss

  • Watch the traditional animal release ceremony from the bridge
  • Photograph the five arches reflecting in the canal water
  • Walk across the bridge for panoramic views of the water town
