The Best Restaurant in Yan'an for Italian Dining

✨ HighlightThis review is for the Pizza Papa located on Jiefanng W. Road at the intersection of Huguang Road (almost across the street from the Asia Pacific restaurant). I have never been to the other locations and cannot review them. A group of several Americans and our wives visit Pizza Papa several evenings a week for coffee. The staff is extremely friendly and has no problem with us filling a booth for several hours and only purchasing coffee. At 7 RMB for a large cup of fresh made decent tasting coffee, that is a great price. After reading several of the posted reviews for Pizza Papa's, I have been hesitant to order pizza here. Living in New Jersey for over 30 years, I know what great pizza tastes like and am fussy. This Sunday, 7 of us were walking past this restaurant and decided to take a chance. (Normally, we might go to the Asia Pacific restaurant for a great meal, but we were already there this week). I ordered a large pizza with sausage, bacon, peppers and olives. It arrived at the table in decent time, looked good and smelled great. I will be the first to acknowledge that it was not a New Jersey pizza, but in my travels I have had much much worse. The cheese was actually mozzarella, which doesn’t always happen in China. The pizza crust and toppings were thoroughly cooked. A small portion of the outer crust was blackened, probably from being too near the oven wall. That was no problem, as I like a crispy crust. Being a thin crust guy, their crust was just a little too thick, but not objectionably so. My 60 year running pizza pet peeve has always been the pizza not being sliced all the way through, which then pulls topping off adjacent slices and makes a mess. They passed the test as all our pizzas were properly sliced. At 38 yuan, they are among the cheapest pizza restaurants. I washed my pizza down with several cans of Coke at 3 RMB a can. Considering it costs at least 2.5 RMB a can in Guilin grocery stores, this was a super deal. In my opinion, their pizza ranks among the best available in Guilin. Pizza Hut in Guilin may have a 20 page menu, a fancy décor and far higher prices, but I would buy pizza at Pizza Papa over theirs. Thanks to this experience, they have probably earned my coffee and pizza business.→
