The Drum Tower of Xi'an, built in 1380 during the Ming Dynasty, once signaled the time with drum beats at dusk. Located just west of the Bell Tower, it forms a historic pair. The tower houses a collection of large drums, including a replica of the original drum used for timekeeping. Visitors can explore exhibitions on drum culture and enjoy views over the lively Muslim Quarter. The building's imposing structure, with its dark brick base and ornate wooden upper floors, is a fine example of Ming architecture.

Don't miss

  • View the giant replica drum and other historic drums displayed inside the tower.
  • Watch the daily drum performance (times vary) reenacting ancient timekeeping rituals.
  • Enjoy panoramic views of the Muslim Quarter's bustling streets and food stalls from the top.
