Daci'en Temple, originally built in 648 AD, is the expansive Buddhist monastery that surrounds the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda. It was established by Emperor Li Zhi in memory of his mother, and later became the center of Xuanzang's translation of Buddhist scriptures. The temple grounds include several halls, a bell tower, and a drum tower, all set within peaceful gardens. Visitors can explore the main hall with its Buddha statues, stroll through courtyards lined with ancient trees, and sense the deep spiritual history that has drawn pilgrims for centuries.

Don't miss

  • Explore the Mahavira Hall, which houses a large statue of Sakyamuni and intricate murals.
  • Ring the ancient bell in the bell tower, said to bring good luck.
  • Walk the quiet side courtyards to see stone tablets and ancient cypress trees.
