Xiongguan, meaning 'Heroic Pass,' is a historic area adjacent to Jiayu Pass that once served as a key military outpost. Today, visitors can wander through restored Ming-era streets lined with traditional courtyard houses, shops, and tea houses. The district's centerpiece is the Xiongguan Gate, a massive stone archway with intricate carvings. From the gate, a short hike leads to a hilltop pavilion offering panoramic views of the fortress and the Qilian Mountains. The area is less crowded than the main pass, providing a more tranquil glimpse into ancient frontier life.
