Sacred Heart Cathedral

Sacred Heart Cathedral, also called the Stone Church, is a magnificent Gothic Revival structure located on Yide Road in the heart of Guangzhou. Built entirely from granite, it stands as one of the few remaining all-stone cathedrals in China. The cathedral's twin spires rise dramatically above the surrounding cityscape, creating a striking contrast with the modern buildings nearby. A bit of history

Construction of Sacred Heart Cathedral began in 1863 under the direction of French missionaries and was completed in 1888. It was designed by French architect Léon Vautrin in the Gothic Revival style. The cathedral survived periods of turmoil, including damage during the Cultural Revolution, and was fully restored in the 2000s.
