Magallanes National Reserve encompasses over 17,000 hectares of Patagonian steppe and lenga beech forest, offering a quick escape into nature just 10 kilometers from Punta Arenas. Well-marked trails lead through stands of coigüe and ñirre trees, where visitors can spot guanacos, foxes, and an array of birdlife including the Magellanic woodpecker. The reserve's highest point, Cerro Mirador, rewards hikers with a stunning panorama of the Strait of Magellan and the distant Tierra del Fuego mountains. Interpretive signs along the routes provide context about the local ecology and history of the area.
