Buracona is a natural seawater pool carved into volcanic rock on Sal's rugged coastline. The main draw is the 'Blue Eye' (Olho Azul), a deep underwater cave where sunlight filters through a hole in the rock, creating a brilliant blue glow. Visitors can swim in the calm, clear waters, snorkel among small fish, or leap from the surrounding cliffs into the pool. The site is exposed to Atlantic swells, so conditions vary with tide and wind, adding an element of adventure. It's a popular stop for day-trippers exploring the island's wilder side.

Don't miss

  • Peer into the 'Blue Eye' from above to see the surreal underwater light show
  • Snorkel in the crystal-clear pool and spot colorful reef fish
  • Cliff jump from the rocks into the deep, turquoise water
