The Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa is the historic facility where Canada's circulation coins have been struck since 1908. Unlike the Winnipeg mint, this location focuses on collector coins, medals, and gold refining. Visitors on guided tours watch a gold bar being poured at 1,064°C and see the process of coin design and minting. The highlight is the chance to strike your own souvenir coin by hand using a press. The tour also includes a gallery of rare coins, including the world's largest gold coin (100 kg). The building itself is a heritage structure with a distinctive art deco facade.
