Schwatka Lake is a man-made reservoir created by a hydroelectric dam on the Yukon River, just south of Whitehorse. The lake offers calm waters ideal for kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding, while anglers try for lake trout and Arctic grayling. A paved walking and cycling trail hugs the shoreline, providing easy access to picnic spots and viewpoints. Surrounded by boreal forest, the lake is a quiet retreat for wildlife viewing, including loons and beavers. Its proximity to the city makes it a convenient outdoor destination for both locals and visitors.
Don't miss
- Paddle or kayak on the calm, scenic waters of the reservoir.
- Fish for lake trout or Arctic grayling from the shore or a boat.
- Stroll or cycle the lakeside trail for peaceful views of the water and forest.
