The Ramparts of Quebec City are the only fortified city walls remaining in North America north of Mexico, encircling the historic district of Old Quebec, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Stretching about 4.6 kilometers, these stone fortifications were built by the French and British to defend the city. Visitors can walk along sections of the ramparts, enjoying views of the St. Lawrence River and the city's rooftops. Key features include the Porte Saint-Louis and Porte Saint-Jean gates, as well as the Citadelle, an active military installation. The walls offer a tangible connection to Quebec's military history.

Don't miss

  • Walk the Promenade des Gouverneurs for panoramic river views.
  • Pass through the historic Porte Saint-Louis gate into the Old Town.
  • Visit the Citadelle of Quebec, a star-shaped fortress within the ramparts.
