Saysutshun (Newcastle Island Marine) Park is a 365-hectare island park just a short passenger ferry ride from downtown Nanaimo. The island offers a network of hiking and biking trails through second-growth forest and along rocky shorelines, with panoramic views of the harbor and Coast Mountains. Visitors can explore the remains of a sandstone quarry and a former fish-packing plant, as well as learn about the island's significance to the Snuneymuxw First Nation. Camping is available for those who want to stay overnight, and the park is a popular spot for kayaking, picnicking, and wildlife viewing.
