Departure Bay is a scenic coastal area in Nanaimo, featuring a long sandy beach ideal for swimming, sunbathing, and beachcombing. The bay is also home to a major BC Ferries terminal, connecting Vancouver Island to the mainland and nearby islands. Visitors can watch ferries come and go while enjoying panoramic views of Newcastle Island, Gabriola Island, and the Coast Mountains. The adjacent park has picnic tables, a playground, and a walking path along the shoreline. It's a great place to relax, launch a kayak, or simply take in the maritime atmosphere.
