Vermilion Lakes form a chain of shallow, marshy lakes along the Bow River, with Mount Rundle rising dramatically behind them. This is a prime spot for canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding, as the calm waters reflect the mountain perfectly. Birdwatchers flock here for species like loons, grebes, and bald eagles. The area is also famous for sunset photography, when the sky and mountain reflections create a stunning palette. A scenic drive or bike path runs alongside the lakes, with several pullouts for easy access.

Don't miss

  • Paddle the calm waters for iconic reflections of Mount Rundle at sunset
  • Spot waterfowl and birds of prey from the shoreline or a canoe
  • Walk or bike the Vermilion Lakes Drive for multiple photo-worthy viewpoints
