Banteay Kdei is a large Buddhist temple built in the late 12th century under King Jayavarman VII. It was likely a monastic complex, with four concentric enclosures and a central sanctuary. The temple is known for its serene, forested setting and its relatively unrestored state, giving it a romantic, crumbling charm. Visitors can wander through long hallways, admire intricate carvings of apsaras and Buddhist scenes, and explore the many chambers. It is less crowded than Angkor Wat or Bayon, offering a more tranquil experience.
