The Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, about 15 km south of Phnom Penh, are the most notorious of the mass graves where Khmer Rouge executed prisoners from Tuol Sleng. The centerpiece is a glass-walled memorial stupa containing over 5,000 skulls arranged by age and gender. Visitors walk along paths past excavated pits, where bone fragments and clothing still surface after rains. An audio guide narrates the site's history, making it a poignant, reflective experience.
