Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum occupies what was once a Phnom Penh high school, converted by the Khmer Rouge in 1975 into Security Prison 21 (S-21). Visitors walk through stark classrooms where prisoners were shackled and tortured, seeing haunting photographs of victims and preserved cells. The museum stands as a memorial to the estimated 20,000 people who passed through its gates, most of whom were later executed at the Killing Fields. It offers a deeply moving, educational experience about Cambodia's tragic past.

Don't miss

  • View the haunting black-and-white portraits of prisoners taken upon arrival.
