Castelão, officially Estádio Governador João Castelo, is the largest football stadium in Maranhão and the home ground of Sampaio Corrêa Futebol Clube. Renovated for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the arena has a capacity of over 40,000 and features a modern design with a distinctive curved roof. On match days, the atmosphere is electric with passionate local fans. The stadium also hosts concerts and events.
