Mirante Dona Marta is one of the finest viewpoints in Rio de Janeiro, a lookout perched on the Dona Marta hill, partway up toward Corcovado, offering a spectacular panorama that takes in Christ the Redeemer above, Sugarloaf Mountain, Botafogo and Flamengo beaches, Guanabara Bay, and the city spreading out below. From here you can see the statue of Christ standing dramatically atop its mountain, with the whole sweep of Rio's mountains-meet-sea landscape laid out, one of the best places to appreciate why the city is called the 'Marvellous City.'
Reached by car or tour van up a winding road, it's a quick stop but a hugely rewarding one, especially in clear weather and at sunset. There's a viewing platform and often a helicopter pad nearby. Combine it with a trip to Corcovado, and bring a camera, this is a classic Rio photo spot.
Don't miss
- Panoramic views with Christ the Redeemer above
- Sugarloaf Mountain and Guanabara Bay
- Botafogo and Flamengo beaches below
- A classic Rio sunset and photo spot
- Its position on the road to Corcovado
