Sugarloaf Mountain is a distinctive 396-meter peak at the mouth of Guanabara Bay, accessible via a two-stage cable car system. The journey begins at Praia Vermelha, ascending to Morro da Urca, then to the summit. From the top, visitors enjoy panoramic vistas of Rio's coastline, Christ the Redeemer, and the bay's islands. The granite monolith's unique shape and setting make it a must-see, especially at sunset when the city lights begin to twinkle.

Don't miss

  • Ride the cable car in two stages, with a stop at Morro da Urca for views and refreshments.
  • Photograph the sunset panorama over Rio, with Christ the Redeemer in the distance.
  • Spot hang gliders launching from nearby Pedra Bonita and landing on the beach below.
