The Júlio de Castilhos Museum, established in 1903, is the oldest museum in Rio Grande do Sul. Located in a neoclassical building that once belonged to the museum's namesake, a former state governor, it offers a deep dive into the region's history. Visitors explore exhibits on indigenous cultures, the Farroupilha Revolution, and everyday life from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Highlights include a preserved 1920s pharmacy and a collection of gaucho artifacts. The museum provides a intimate look at the state's heritage through original furnishings, photographs, and personal items of Júlio de Castilhos himself.
