Machadão, officially Estádio João Cláudio de Vasconcelos Machado, was Natal's main multi-purpose stadium for decades before being replaced by Arena das Dunas for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. It hosted football matches, concerts, and large gatherings, and remains a recognizable landmark in the city. Though no longer in active use for major events, the site is a point of reference for locals and a piece of Natal's sporting heritage. Visitors today can see the exterior and reflect on its former glory.
