Karađoz Bey Mosque, built in 1557 by the Ottoman architect Sinan, is one of Mostar's most important Islamic landmarks. The mosque features a large dome, a slender minaret, and a peaceful courtyard with a fountain for ablutions. Inside, intricate floral and geometric motifs adorn the walls, and the mihrab (prayer niche) is decorated with fine calligraphy. Visitors can climb the minaret for panoramic views of Mostar's Old Town and the Neretva River. The mosque remains an active place of worship, welcoming respectful visitors outside prayer times.
Don't miss
- Climb the minaret for sweeping views of Mostar's Old Town and the Stari Most
- Admire the 16th-century Ottoman calligraphy and tilework inside the prayer hall
- Relax in the shaded courtyard with its historic ablution fountain
