The Khari Khari Lakes are a remarkable feat of colonial engineering, consisting of several reservoirs connected by canals and aqueducts that once supplied water to Potosí's mines and ore-processing mills. Today, the lakes sit in a high-altitude valley about 10 km from the city, offering peaceful hiking trails with views of the surrounding puna grasslands and distant peaks. Visitors can walk along the stone channels, spot native birds like Andean geese, and picnic by the calm waters, all while contemplating the area's industrial past.

Don't miss

  • Hike the trail along the main canal to see original stone aqueducts
  • Birdwatch for Andean geese, flamingos, and ducks at the lakes
  • Photograph the reflections of the Cordillera de los Frailes in the still water
