The Kingdom of Whydah was a major hub in the Atlantic slave trade, and today visitors can explore the remains of its royal palace and the Door of No Return at the beach. The site includes a museum with artifacts and a memorial to those who were enslaved. Walking the Route of Slaves, you'll see the Tree of Forgetfulness and the Tree of Return, which held symbolic meanings for captives. It's a sobering but essential visit to understand Benin's history.
