The Lange Nelle Lighthouse is a striking red-and-white striped tower that stands as a sentinel over the Ostend harbor. At 57 meters (187 feet), it is one of the tallest lighthouses in Belgium and offers an unparalleled vantage point for sweeping views of the coastline, the city, and the North Sea. Visitors can climb the 200+ steps to the top, where an observation deck provides a 360-degree panorama. Along the way, small exhibits detail the history of navigation and the lighthouse's role in guiding ships safely into port. The climb is moderately strenuous but rewarding, with landings offering rest stops and glimpses of the harbor activity. On clear days, you can see as far as the dunes of De Haan and the port of Zeebrugge. The lighthouse is still operational, its light visible for 27 nautical miles.
Don't miss
