Ghyvelde is a commune in northern France, situated along the Flemish coast near the Belgian border. It encompasses several villages, including the seaside resort of Les Dunes de Flandre. The area is characterized by its natural landscapes, including dunes, polders, and beaches. The beach at Ghyvelde is wide and sandy, backed by the Dunes of Flanders, which are protected as a nature reserve. This makes it an excellent destination for hiking, birdwatching, and cycling. The coastal path, part of the GR 120 long-distance trail, runs through the dunes, offering panoramic views of the sea and the surrounding countryside. Inland, the polders are crisscrossed with canals and drainage ditches, creating a peaceful rural setting. The village of Ghyvelde itself has a few shops and restaurants, but the main draw is the unspoiled natural environment. It is a quieter alternative to the busier resorts like De Panne and Dunkirk.
