The Koppenberg is one of the most notorious cobblestone climbs in the Flemish Ardennes, located near Oudenaarde. With a maximum gradient of 22% and uneven cobblestones, it is a formidable challenge for cyclists and a thrilling spectacle during the Tour of Flanders. The climb is short but intense, rising 77 meters over 600 meters. Visitors can attempt to ride or walk the hill, experiencing the same grueling surface that professional racers face. The surrounding area is wooded and quiet, offering a serene contrast to the physical effort. At the top, there is a small monument commemorating the climb's place in cycling lore. Even if you're not on a bike, the Koppenberg is worth a visit to appreciate the grit and determination required to conquer it.
