Floreffe Abbey is a sprawling former Premonstratensian monastery set on the banks of the Sambre River, just west of Namur. The site combines religious architecture, industrial heritage, and natural beauty. The abbey church, with its soaring Gothic nave and Baroque choir, is still used for worship and concerts. Next door, the abbey brewery produces traditional Belgian beers using water from the site's own well, and you can tour the brew house and sample the results. The grounds include formal gardens, a riverside promenade, and the remains of medieval fortifications. What makes Floreffe distinctive is the seamless blend of sacred and secular: monks once lived and worked here, and today the abbey is a living cultural center with a school, event spaces, and a popular brasserie. The view of the Sambre from the terrace is a highlight.
