The Major Mining Sites of Wallonia are a UNESCO World Heritage serial property comprising four former coal mines that bear witness to the industrial revolution in Belgium. Each site offers a unique perspective on mining history: Grand-Hornu impresses with its neo-classical architecture; Bois-du-Luc is one of the oldest preserved mining sites in Europe; Bois du Cazier is known for the tragic 1956 fire that killed 262 miners; and Blegny-Mine allows visitors to descend into an authentic mine shaft.
