Kazerne Dossin is a powerful and sobering museum located in the former SS transit camp of Mechelen, from which over 25,000 Jews and Roma were deported to Auschwitz. The museum tells the story of the Holocaust in Belgium through personal testimonies, photographs, and artifacts, while also addressing broader themes of human rights and genocide prevention. The permanent exhibition is divided into three parts: the history of the camp, the stories of the victims, and a reflection on human rights today. The memorial outside serves as a place of remembrance. Visiting is an emotional but essential experience for understanding this dark chapter of history.
