Brusselpoort is the last remaining city gate of Mechelen's original twelve medieval gates, built in the 13th century. It stands as a proud reminder of the city's fortified past. The gate features a massive central arch flanked by two round towers, with a distinctive stepped gable and a statue of the Virgin Mary above the arch. Visitors can walk through the gate's passage, which now serves as a pedestrian and bicycle route, and admire the stonework and historical details. The interior is not open to the public, but the exterior is well-preserved and photogenic. The gate is located on the edge of the city center, making it a great starting point for a walk along the former city walls. It's a must-see for history buffs and offers a tangible link to Mechelen's medieval heritage.
