Montagne de Bueren is a steep staircase of 374 steps that climbs the hillside from the city center to the Citadel. Built in the 19th century to allow soldiers to descend quickly, it is now a popular tourist attraction. Climbing the stairs is a workout, but the reward is a stunning panoramic view of Liège's rooftops, the Meuse River, and the surrounding hills. The staircase is often decorated with flowers or lights during festivals. For those who prefer a less strenuous route, a winding road also leads to the top. The experience is quintessentially Liège and offers great photo opportunities.

Don't miss

  • Climb the 374 steps for a workout and the view
  • Photograph the city from the top at sunset
  • Visit the nearby Citadel and its park
  • See the staircase illuminated during the Christmas market
