Smeets distillery is a cherished piece of Hasselt's jenever heritage, housed in a 19th-century building that still contains original copper pot stills and aging barrels. The tour takes you through the entire production process, from grain selection to distillation and bottling, with knowledgeable guides explaining the craft. You'll see the mash room, the still house, and the cellar where earthenware jars store the spirit. The highlight is the tasting session, where you can sample several varieties of jenever, including aged and fruit-infused versions. The distillery shop offers bottles to take home. It's an intimate, educational experience that connects you to the city's distilling tradition.
