Wéris is a small village in the Belgian Ardennes, famous for its remarkable concentration of megalithic monuments dating back to the Neolithic period (around 3000 BC). The site includes several dolmens (stone burial chambers) and menhirs (standing stones) scattered across the rolling countryside. The most notable is the Dolmen of Wéris, a large chambered tomb with a massive capstone, and the Menhir of Danthine, a tall standing stone. Visitors can follow a marked walking trail that connects the main megaliths, offering a journey through ancient history amid pastoral landscapes. What makes Wéris distinctive is the density and variety of its megaliths, one of the most important prehistoric sites in Belgium. You'll see the stones set against a backdrop of fields and forests, with informational panels explaining their likely ceremonial and funerary purposes.
