The Boris stones are massive granite boulders engraved with crosses and Cyrillic text, dating to the 12th century. They are believed to have been commissioned by Prince Boris of Polotsk to mark trade routes or as Christian symbols. Several stones remain in situ along the Dvina River, while others are displayed in museums.
