Arad Fort is a well-preserved 15th-century Islamic fortification located on the outskirts of Muharraq. Built from coral stone and limestone, it features a square plan with four massive round towers at each corner, typical of early Islamic military architecture. The fort was restored in the 1980s and now serves as a venue for concerts, exhibitions, and festivals, including the annual Bahrain International Music Festival. Visitors can explore the inner courtyard, climb the towers for views of the surrounding area, and learn about the fort's role in defending Bahrain from Portuguese and Omani incursions.

Don't miss

  • Walk through the central courtyard and imagine the fort's original use as a military stronghold.
  • Climb one of the four round towers for a view of the nearby date palm groves and modern Muharraq.
  • Check the events calendar for evening concerts or cultural performances held within the fort's walls.
