The USS Adirondack was a Union gunboat that sank in 1862 while attempting to run the Confederate blockade. Today, the wreck lies in shallow waters off Great Abaco, making it an accessible dive site for history buffs and snorkelers. The remains are scattered across a sandy bottom, with visible cannons, anchor, and hull structure encrusted with coral. Divers can explore the site while observing marine life that now calls the wreck home. The clear waters and moderate depth (around 20 feet) make it suitable for intermediate divers.
Don't miss
- See intact cannons and the ship's anchor resting on the sandy seabed.
- Spot colorful tropical fish and coral formations around the wreckage.
- Explore the scattered remains of the hull and deck structure.
