The SS Sapona is a 1920s concrete-hulled cargo ship that ran aground during a hurricane in 1926 and now rests partially submerged off the coast of Bimini. This unique wreck is a top attraction for snorkelers and divers, who can explore the remains of the hull and superstructure, which rise dramatically from the shallow, clear waters. The site teems with marine life, including colorful fish and coral formations. Visitors typically arrive by boat from nearby Alice Town and spend an hour or two swimming around the wreck, peering into its open holds and enjoying the surreal sight of a ship half-sunk in a tropical paradise.

Don't miss

  • Snorkel around the exposed hull and peer into the ship's open cargo holds.
  • Spot tropical fish, sea turtles, and coral formations that have made the wreck their home.
  • Photograph the iconic silhouette of the ship rising from the crystal-clear waters.
