The Ashaghy caravanserai, built in the 18th century, is a well-preserved example of a Silk Road inn. Located in the lower part of Sheki, it provided lodging and stables for merchants traveling between Europe and Asia. The two-story building surrounds a large courtyard, with rooms for travelers on the upper floor and storage for goods on the ground floor. The thick stone walls and small windows kept the interior cool in summer and warm in winter. Today, it houses shops and a restaurant, allowing visitors to experience the atmosphere of a historic trading post.

Don't miss

  • Walk through the central courtyard and imagine the bustling activity of Silk Road caravans.
  • Browse the souvenir shops and craft stalls that now occupy the former merchant rooms.
  • Dine at the restaurant in the caravanserai, which serves traditional Azerbaijani cuisine.
