Gosha Gala Tower, also known as the Double Gates or Twin Towers, is a historic defensive structure located in the heart of Baku's Old City (Icherisheher). The tower consists of two massive stone bastions flanking a grand entrance gate, which once served as the main portal into the medieval walled city. Built from local limestone, the towers feature crenellations and narrow slit windows typical of medieval fortifications. Today, visitors can climb to the top of one of the towers for sweeping views over the Old City's labyrinthine alleys, the Maiden Tower, and the Caspian Sea coastline. The site is a popular photo spot and a gateway to exploring the UNESCO-listed Old City. The surrounding area is filled with souvenir shops, cafes, and historic buildings.

A bit of history

The Gosha Gala Tower dates back to the 12th century, built during the Shirvanshah dynasty as part of Baku's fortifications. The twin towers were reconstructed in the 19th century after damage from earthquakes and wars. They remain one of the best-preserved examples of medieval Azerbaijani military architecture.
