Residenzplatz is the central square of Salzburg's historic Altstadt, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Dominated by the magnificent Residenz fountain (Residenzbrunnen), one of the largest Baroque fountains in Central Europe, the square is surrounded by important buildings: the Salzburg Residenz, the Salzburg Cathedral, and the Glockenspiel tower. The square's spacious layout makes it a gathering place for locals and tourists alike, with outdoor cafés offering views of the architectural splendor. It often hosts events, concerts, and the famous Salzburg Christmas market. A stroll across the cobblestones reveals the layered history of the city, from Roman times to the present.
