Mirabell Palace

Mirabell Palace is a stunning baroque palace located just across the Salzach River from the historic centre. Built in 1606 for Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich, it was originally called Altenau and later renamed Mirabell (meaning 'beautiful view'). The palace itself now houses municipal offices and the Marble Hall, a venue for concerts and weddings. But the real draw is the Mirabell Gardens, a meticulously manicured baroque garden featuring the famous Pegasus Fountain, hedge mazes, and flower beds. The gardens are a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, offering a peaceful escape from the city bustle. From the garden, you get a postcard-perfect view of Hohensalzburg Fortress towering above. The gardens were featured in the film 'The Sound of Music' where the von Trapp children sing 'Do-Re-Mi'.
